Love & Relationships

Choose love…

Today I am in a reflective mood. There’s an air of melancholy. The ground below our feet is a tad rocky. There’s a rumble and it’s rocking our inner core. I can’t discuss much other than the emotions. Alongside the local community tragedy that rocked our little village, is traumatic news relating to a friend. There’s nothing I can do about these things other than try to get to grips with my feelings and emotions relating to them. And decide how to react and behave in the wake of them… and how to interact with and support those close to me.

At the moment it would be easy to look at the news;: gun violence and tragedy in the USA; unsettled economy and political infighting in the UK; increasing numbers of people living on the streets; sexual misconduct by (it feels) just about every man in a position of power and trust; greed and selfishness. I’m not even going to start listing all the other tragedies in the world new. But just like all this terrifying political news, wars and natural disasters; those incidents and happening nearer to home are equally out of my control. Yet being closer to home the nerves they touch are more raw. The impact more personal; the aftershock more pronounced. Yet I remain helpless to change anything.  This morning I was reading a blog post by Lucy of What My Fridge Says, entitled You Are What You Love and it reminded me that all we can do is be better people ourselves. We can be what we want the world to be.. we can love ourselves and be loving. Be kind. Be compassionate. We can give, listen, care.

If each one of us individually strives to be a better person then eventually this world will be a better place. Ok we can’t stop all the tragedies; natural disasters will happen; people we love will get ill and die; but we can all be more caring. We can be more open; both in our heart and our minds. We can choose love. And if we can choose love despite everything we see in this world, internationally and close to home, we can help make the world a better place.

Today I am the warm sun cutting through a cold crisp winter morning…

  4. What a lovely post. I’m hating the news at the moment, but you’re completely right – if we want the world to be a better place where better to start than spreading the love from our little corner of it. Thanks for linking up to #Thesatsesh
